YEAR 7 VISUAL ARTS (mandatory) 
Visual Arts mostly focuses on the Elements of Design. Students learn how the elements are incorporated in artworks. These are mostly achieved by studying works of other known artists. The practical component of the course develops students’ dexterity. Some of the areas studied are name designs, lino printing, ceramics, drawing and painting.
YEAR 8 VISUAL ART (mandatory)
Students study themes like fantasy art and society and the community and experiment with a variety of mediums like painting, ceramics, sculpture and printing. They also have a chance to develop their skills using the computer and Photoshop. They learn about appropriation and study artists whose works
relate to themes.
YEAR 9 VISUAL ARTS (elective)
Visual arts fosters interest and enjoyment in making and studying art. Students develop an understanding of the role of art in forms of drawing, painting, ceramics and computer graphics. They study their immediate environment and do comparative works of known artists who have done environmental studies. Three dimensional forms are also included in their studies.
YEAR 10 VISUAL ARTS (elective)
Students continue to develop their skills in selected areas of visual arts. Their works at this stage shows attention to detail, furthering their understanding of conventions, procedures and strategies of practice and finished pieces of artwork. All their work is thoroughly documented in their art diaries which may include drawings, photographs, collections, paintings, sketches and annotated diagrams, critical comments and reflections. Students are also encouraged to complete internet based research work on selected artists.
YEAR 11 VISUAL ART
Units studied in Year 11 are designed to familiarise students with the requirements of the HSC course. Students develop knowledge and skills in ways of interpreting art works. They also learn to develop an approach to practical work: IDEA leading to PROCESS leading to RESOLUTION. They are encouraged to experiment with materials and ideas.
YEAR 11 PHOTOGRAPHY
The course taught in year11 photography is divided into two components, Wet Photography and Digital. In wet photography the students learn about the history of photography, using an SLR camera and how to develop a film and produce photos in the dark room. They also study different developmental techniques and processes. The students also profile the work of two successful photographers. In digital photography the students learn the techniques of taking photographs with a digital camera and how to manipulate them using Photoshop.
YEAR 12 VISUAL ART
Students in year 12 further develop the skills introduced in year 11. They now have to focus on a particular area and develop their ideas into a major work. In 2005 a year 12 student’s Major Works made Art Express for digital animation.
